Norfolk Community Primary School, Sheffield

Norfolk Community Primary School is a vibrant learning community in the Norfolk Park and Arbourthorne area of Sheffield. We offer a fantastic learning environment and we take children from 2 years old to 11 years old.

Why come and train with us?

We aspire to become outstanding, and know that the way to do this is to focus very firmly on teaching within and beyond the classroom. We have a dynamic and energetic group of teachers in Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2. We meet regularly as teachers to discuss our practice. We have a very clear focus on assessment for learning, which we interpret as:

  • planning and delivering good learning activities
  • asking good questions
  • involving all children in all aspects of the lesson
  • giving children good feedback

We also have a strong focus on language and communication. We use some of our pupil premium money to pay for speech and language therapy in school, which means that we benefit from specialist support that helps all children to acquire new vocabulary and concepts. Talking and co-operating are a vital part of every lesson and are carefully planned into the teaching cycle.

We teach phonics and reading using the Read Write Inc scheme and have seen a great improvement in our KS1 reading as children become fluent in decoding early on in their school life. We promote a love of reading through a wide variety of whole school approaches. We have a well-stocked library run by a librarian who works closely with class teachers to support their teaching of English. We hold regular events to promote authors, books and libraries. Staff read children’s books, and share their knowledge of books with each other.

We are passionate about the value that new technologies bring to the classroom, and have recently invested heavily in film-making equipment and software, as well as a large number of i-pads for use in the classroom.

We have recently begun to deliver our maths using the “Maths Makes Sense” scheme, and although as a staff we are new to this approach, we are very excited about the new teaching methods.

As a staff we are always challenging ourselves to do better for our children. We were recognised by OFSTED as a good school in our last inspection. We are proud of the OFSTED report, which states, “This is a good school. It makes a considerable difference to the lives of the young people in its care.” If you aspire to make a difference to the lives of young people, then you should consider training with us.
