Greenlands Nursery, Infant & Junior School

Greenlands Nursery Infant School (GNIS) and Greenlands Junior School (GJS) are working in formal collaboration sharing one governing body and one executive Headteacher. These improving, culturally diverse schools share a large Victorian building in Darnall.

Both schools serve a socially and economically deprived area which continues to grow and change in its cultural make-up. There are currently 357 pupils in the Junior School and 270 full time pupils in the infant school plus a 52 FTE place nursery. The vast majority of these children have English as an additional language.

Children enter the foundation stage well below national expectations and a significant number have speech and communication difficulties on entry. Standards of attainment and achievement are rising in KS1 and the school is on an improving journey ‘getting to good’. The Nursery Infant School was inspected early in 2013 and graded as requiring improvement. A recent monitoring visit was favourable and indicated that good progress had been made.

KS2 results at Greenlands Junior School were below floor targets in 2013 but an improving trend from 2014 and beyond is confidently expected. This school was also inspected this year and is requiring improvement, although leadership was graded as good.

The behaviour and safety of children was graded as good in both schools (2013.)

There is a new Executive Headteacher and senior leadership team working across both schools . There is an ambitious, widely shared vision for the development of a good, inclusive, community school resource for the children and families of Darnall.
