New for 2018/19 : Primary PE Specialist Training
IGNITING LEARNING TO CREATE OUTSTANDING TEACHERS AND LEADERS OF THE FUTURE
School Direct is a one year school based training programme for graduates who want to become teachers. The Sheffield South East Learning Partnership (SSELP) is recruiting applicants for next September School Direct.
What is Sheffield South East Learning Partnership?
Sheffield South East Learning Partnership (SSELP) is a collaboration of 18 schools working together to share and promote excellent standards and practice in primary education.
All the schools in SSELP are situated in areas of high deprivation, with many pupils on free school meals and high levels of special educational need. Many of the schools are multi-cultural and have a significant number of children with English as an additional language. The profile of the school populations means that the schools in SSELP have developed strong inclusive practice that enables all children to participate fully.
Many pupils enter the schools with lower than average levels of attainment, but we have high aspirations for our children and have developed practice that enables them to achieve against the odds. Some SSELP schools secure attainment higher than national averages and progress across SSELP is generally good or better. The collaboration as a whole has a proven track record of improving outcomes.
SSELP schools have a holistic approach and deliver the curriculum creatively, in recognition that our children need shared experiences and nurture in order to access learning that is meaningful to them. The schools work together on collaborative projects that broaden the opportunities available to pupils, with a particular focus on reading for pleasure and the creative arts.
The collaboration provides a wide range of opportunities for professional development and the sharing of effective practice, including well-established networks, training linked to ESCAL (Every Sheffield Child Articulate and Literate) and school-to-school visits. Many of the schools are recognised as centres of good practice, leading on school improvement projects across Sheffield and beyond.
What is School Direct?
School Direct is a school based training plan, whereby individual schools or groups of schools work with Higher Education Institutes (HEI) to deliver training for ITT trainees. SSELP is working alongside Sheffield Hallam University to offer places in primary education for non-salaried trainees. The training route is one year long and leads to a PGCE with QTS and Masters credits.
