Developing a Reading Culture – Reading for Pleasure
SSELP identified a need to embed reading as not only a necessary skill but as a source of wonder and enjoyment for life.
- All schools completed a Reading Culture audit and action plan. A Lead Practitioner from within SSELP visited each school to prioritise next steps.
- All schools adopted a Reading Pledge – shared approaches and principles promoting reading for pleasure.
- Year 2/Year 3 Book gifting (3 books over a year) in the local library. 800 children read the same book and then came together each term to meet the author and engage in reading workshops, at Sheffield Central Library and local community libraries. This was partly sponsored by SCC Community Assembly.
